Doobi is apart of our COCO team. In what ways has coco impacted you? What are you most excited for pertaining to our collective?
when I first started working with coco I knew from the very beginning that it would flourish into something beautiful I think its given me another sense of purpose within not only the creative community but just in general
how do you view the Colorado creative scene?
I think that the creative scene in Colorado is filled with some crazy talent its just young compared to all the other major hubs but with enough work ethic from a lot of artist out here ii think it could be in the market to compete with some of the major hubs creatively within the next 5-6 years.
in what ways do you think we could improve collectively for the Colorado creative scene?
Personally I think artist in the city as well as outside should be more on the collaborative tip more. At coco we strive to bring a lot of those creatives together and get them the connections that a they need I think bridging that gap within the creative community would improve the scene as a whole
lastly, what is a phrase, motto, or affirmation you give yourself to keep up with this pursuit?
this shit don't stop people do that's a fact. & fuck em we ball
Doobie Danx is a one of a kind artist based in Colorado but born in Mississippi & raised along the east coast. Determined, enthusiastic, and inspired he wastes no time in his pursuit of his passion. Developing a love for music at just seven years old with playing drums; the future is bright for him with just the single factor of never giving up on what fuels his soul.
What age were you when music drew you in? What made you fall in love with music?
Id say right around 7/8 is when I actually fell in love with music itself I learned how to play the drums and that's what peaked my interest at that time. I was more so drawn to live music because my grandmother would bring us to church and they had a full band with a live choir and I always thought the direction of all the voices coming together to make an individual harmony was always the most facilitating along with the breakdowns involved with the percussion instruments. As I got older I became more drawn to the bass guitar which I would later try to teach myself how to play (I'm still learning)
How would you describe your style of music?
Ive never really liked putting myself in one category or genre of music because I always felt like it limited my creative output... it's more of a mental thing but, id describe my music as mood music. I just create based off how Im feeling right there in that moment. It does usually fall into hiphop but ive been experimenting while creating and really locking in on a sound I'm enjoying from myself.
who or what inspires your music? Who would you love to collaborate with?
I think music as a whole just the actual concept of music is what inspires me the most. That fact that it holds so much power and you can influence masses with it if you're able to produce the right sound waves in certain order I think holds more weight then the avg person realizes and its important we do. ive got a long list of collabs,i think my top three would have to be Timbaland , Pierre Bourne , and last but certainly not least Erykah Badu
I know you produce your own beats as well; what came first? Rapping or producing?
I would say they both came around the same time fairly when I started playing the drums I started really just writing wraps with my brother cousin and uncles
What’s the biggest challenge you’ve encountered on your creative journey?
I would have to say my biggest challenge isn't even external but internal I think self doubt has held me back from countless opportunities and Its something I'm actively trying to change as I grow as an artist.
if you had to give a piece of advice to the younger generation pertaining to creativity & passion in monetizing it; what would it be?
just a piece,If you love it go after it... and if you can figure out a way to make it work for you and not for it go faster.
